1. Describe
The TPS2372-4RGWR contains all the functions required to implement an IEEE802.3at or IEEE802.3bt Powered Device (PD). Low internal switch resistance allows the TPS2372-4 and TPS2372-3 to support high power applications up to 90 W and 60 W, respectively. Assuming 100 meters of CAT5 cable, this translates to 71.3 W and 51 W at the PD input. The TPS2372 has enhanced functionality. The automatic MPS feature supports applications that require a very low power standby mode. The TPS2372 automatically generates the necessary pulsed current to maintain the PSE power. An external resistor is used to enable this feature and program the MPS pulse current amplitude. The TPS2372 also implements a delay function to allow the remote PSE to complete its surge phase before releasing the power good (PG) output. This ensures that IEEE802.3bt boot requirements are met. The Autoclass enable input also allows an advanced system power optimization mode compliant with the IEEE802.3bt standard.

6. Application Information
The TPS2372-4RGWR has the flexibility to implement in IEEE802.3bt and PoE++ PD. Therefore, it can be used in a wide range of applications such as video and VoIP phones, multi-band access points, security cameras, power modules, LED lighting converters and pico base stations.
7. Function Description
The TPS2372-4RGWR device is a 20-pin integrated circuit that contains all the functions required to implement a single-interface IEEE802.3bt Type-3 (TPS2372-3) and Type-4 (TPS2372-4) powered device (PD). Basic functions supported include detection during startup, hardware classification, and inrush current limiting (200mA for TPS2372-3 and 335mA for TPS2372-4). Enhancements include automatic hold power signature (MPS). The TPS2372-3 integrates a low 0.3Ω internal switch to support Type-3 applications with up to 60W continuous power delivered by the PSE, allowing over 1.2A (1.55A minimum current limit) under normal conditions through PD surgery. Likewise, the TPS2372-4 integrates a low 0.1-Ω internal switch to support Type-4 applications up to 90 W continuous power delivered by the PSE, allowing up to 1.9 A through the PD during normal operation. The TPS2372 has a built-in inrush time delay period as a simple solution to meet IEEE802.3bt start-up requirements. The TPS2372 includes several protection features such as thermal shutdown, current limit foldback, and a robust 100V internal switch.
