1. Describe

The MCP23017-E/SS/MCP23S17 (MCP23X17) device family provides 16-bit general purpose parallel I/O expansion for I2C bus or SPI applications. The MCP23017-E/SS contains multiple 8-bit configurations Registers for input, output and polarity selection. this The system host can enable I/O as input or Output by writing to the I/O Configuration bit (IODIRA/B). Every input or output data is stored in the corresponding input or output register. polarity Input port registers can reverse polarity Invert the register. All registers can be read system master. The 16-bit I/O port is functionally composed of two 8-bit Ports (PORTA and PORTB). MCP23X17 can Configured to operate in 8-bit or 16-bit mode IOCON.BANK. There are two interrupt pins, INTA and INTB, which can associated with their respective ports, or can be logically ORed together so that both pins are active if Either port will cause an interrupt. Interrupt capture register captures port value interrupt time, thus saving the condition cause a power outage. A power-on reset (POR) sets the register to its Default values and initialize the device state machine. The hardware address pins are used to determine Device address.

2. Feature

    1. 16-bit remote bidirectional I/O port:

        - I/O pins default to inputs

    2. High-speed I2C interface (MCP23017):

        - 100 kHz

        - 400 kHz

        - 1.7 MHz

    3. High-speed SPI interface (MCP23S17):

        - 10 MHz (max)

    4. Three hardware address pins allow up to eight devices on the bus

    5. Configurable interrupt output pins:

        - Configurable as active high, active low or open drain

    6. INTA and INTB can be configured to run independently or together

    7. Configurable interrupt sources:

        - Change interrupts from configured register defaults or pin changes

    8. Polarity inversion register configures the polarity of input port data

    9. External reset input

  10. Low standby current: 1 µA (max)

  11. Operating Voltage:

        - 1.8V to 5.5V @ -40°C to +85°C

        - 2.7V to 5.5V @ -40°C to +85°C

        - 4.5V to 5.5V @ -40°C to +125°C
