The NTE series of miniature surface mount DC-DC converters utilize lead frame technology and transfer molding technology to bring all the benefits of IC-style packaging to hybrid circuits. Coplanarity of pin locations is based on IEC 191-6:1990. These devices are suitable for high volume production for all envisaged applications.

3. Isolation voltage

"Hi Pot Test", "Flash Test", "Withstand Voltage", "Withstand Voltage", "Dielectric Withstand Voltage" and "Insulation Test Voltage" are all terms related to the same thing, the test voltage, within a specified time , across components designed to provide electrical isolation, to verify the integrity of that isolation. Murata Power Solutions NTE series DC-DC converters are 100% production tested at their specified isolation voltage. This is 1kVDC for 1 second. A common question is, "What is the continuous voltage that can be applied to the part during normal operation?" For parts that do not have specific agency approval, such as the NTE series, the input and output should generally remain within SELV limits, which is less than 42.4 V peak or 60VDC. The isolation test voltage represents immunity to transient voltages and should never be used as a component of a safety isolation system. If an offset of several hundred volts is applied continuously across the isolation barrier, the part may function properly; however, it must be considered that the circuits on either side of the barrier are operating at unsafe voltages and further isolation/insulation systems must be considered as required by safety standards Form a barrier between these circuits and any user-accessible circuits

4. Repeated high voltage isolation test

It is known that repeated high-voltage isolation testing of barrier components can actually reduce isolation capability, depending on the material, construction, and environment. The NTE series has a toroidal isolation transformer with no additional insulation between the primary and secondary windings of the enameled wire. While parts are expected to withstand several times the specified test voltage, isolation capability does depend on wire insulation. Any material, including such enamels (usually polyurethane), is prone to eventual chemical degradation when subjected to very high applied voltages, which means that the number of tests should be strictly limited. Therefore, we strongly recommend against repeating the high voltage isolation test, but if absolutely necessary, reduce the voltage by 20% from the specified test voltage. This consideration applies equally to agency-approved components that are better than functional isolation, where enameled wire insulation is always supplemented by a further insulation system of physical separation or barriers.
