1. Describe
The TPS2421-2DDA device provides highly integrated hot-swap power management and superior protection in applications where the load is powered by a bus up to 20 V. Due to the maximum UV turn-on threshold, the TPS2421-2DDA device is ideal for a standard bus voltage of 2.9 V down to 3.3 V. These devices are very effective in systems where the voltage bus must be protected to prevent short circuits from interrupting or damaging equipment. The TPS2421-2DDA device is an easy-to-use device available in an 8-pin PowerPad™ SO-8 package. The TPS2421-2DDA device has several programmable protection features. Load protection is achieved through unlimited fault thresholds, hard current limiting and fault timers. The current dual threshold allows the system to draw short high current pulses while the fault timer is running without causing the load voltage to drop. An example of this is disk drive booting. This technique is ideal for loads that experience transient high demand, but benefit from a protection level consistent with their average current consumption. Hot-swap MOSFET protection is provided by a power limiting circuit that protects the internal MOSFETs from SOA-related faults. The TPS2421-2DDA device can be used for fault lockout (TPS2421-1) and fault retry (TPS2421-2).
